Inamori Mika is late for Seioh’s 45th Annual Swimming Tournament. She meets a strange girl who offers Mika a ride on her scooter when she notices Mika is from Seioh. Uehara Mutsuki is annoyed that Mika is late as they need a full team to compete. Meanwhile Mika having trouble with the strange girl’s driving skills. The Principal gives her opening speech when this girl and Mika crash land into the school pool.

The Principal and Shimojima find out that the girl is called Amamiya Manami and is in class 2A, which Shimojima is head teacher of. Manami tells Mu-Chi she prefers to be called Manabi and replaces Mika in the swimming tournament with disastrous results. Manabi goes home happy and shows her certificate of participation to her elder brother and she excitedly tells her brother about her first day in school.

The next day, Mika is getting ready for the School General Assembly which she is not proud of as she’s the only one in the council. After gaining the courage and ask students to join the Student Council, she finds the audience fell asleep during her speech. Apparently when Mika joined the council, the president was transferring schools on the same day, making her the sole member left. After much pleading on Mika’s part, Manabi bursts through the doors and decides to become President of the Student Council despite this being her second day at school. Manabi proudly speaks for the Student Council and sings the School Anthem with much gusto. The school accepts her as their new Student Council President.

Finally, Manabi is formally introduced to her new class 2A in which Mika, Mu-Chi, Mei Etoh and Odori Momoha are also part of.

My Opinions:

And ever noticed all their names start with the letter M?? But back to my opinions. I love the way the characters are drawn! They look so chubby and squishable. Smooth animation (espicially the jumping/twisting/turning). Kudos to the illustrator and animators!!

Story line wise, this episode introduces the 5 main characters and their general personalities, though their relationship with Seioh is not that clear. Manabi is a very energetic girl, determined to change the way the school council is run in Seioh. Mika is there to support her despite her being very clumsy and nervous. Mutsuki loves sports, is outgoing and has the tomboy haircut. Completely on the other side of the pole is Mei, who is more of an introvert and has long hair. Both of them were childhood friends. Momoha is….. Let’s say she likes video recording stuff.

The plot actually sounded cheesy the first time I heard it. In the distant future, the birth rate of humans declined thus fewer students go to school now ( << this line), the school culture has been disappearing as students prefer to work in order to find their true callings. Manabi wants to change that and by being student council president, she plans to find a way to enable students to realize that their school life should be full of memories. I would like to see how she actually manages the council even though the series is only 12 episodes long.

In a way, I was reminded of my school days where we had all these festivals that encouraged student bonding, instead of assuming school = studying/exams. So I felt an attachment to her when she wanted to try bringing back student life to school. I do hope that the anime would be able to combine both plot and all 5 character personalities together in 12 episodes (if it is that far in the manga.)

Ps. Finally, first review~ Though I forgot to publish it … XD Hopefully everyone liked it! If there are ways for me to both the blog or my entries, please comment, I would love to hear them! Thank you very much for reading.
